Xbox Series X Optimized Games Will Have Fast Fixes And More Quick Resume Support, Microsoft Says

Microsoft Plans To Upgrade Xbox Series X/S Enhancements And Feature Sets, Including Next-gen Game Optimizations And Quick Resume

Posted on | Updated on

The new Xbox Series X and Series S allow you to quickly suspend and switch games via the Quick Resume feature. With the Quick Resume feature on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, you can jump back into your games right where you left off. When you switch from one game to another, the Series X|S consoles save the state of the current game. If there’s a Quick Resume state for a game you switch to, the consoles will load that state for you.

The Quick Resume feature allows the Series X|S consoles to store three save states for full-memory Xbox Series X|S titles. Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox console titles use less memory, so the consoles can store more than three when these titles are saved.

Ronald, director of program management at Xbox, made a guest appearance on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's official Xbox podcast today to talk about the good, great, and not-so-good of the recent console launch. After taking a moment to celebrate the new Xbox sales record, Ronald gets down to business discussing Xbox's developer relations and how it relates to achieving smooth, top-class performance on launch titles.

"There's different kinds of issues that can come up as developers are starting to learn and take advantage of this platform," Ronald says. "In some cases, they're just simply bugs in the titles—and we've partnered very closely with them, and the developers will go in and fix those bugs because they're just as committed to delivering that premium experience as we are. In other cases, it's learning how to use this next-generation platform."

In a recent Major Nelson podcast, Xbox's Jason Ronald briefly outlined some of the updates coming to the next-gen Xbox duo in 2021. First, Ronald says that quick resume is a big priority. Microsoft wants to bring the groundbreaking new feature to as many games as possible. Microsoft may even give gamers full control over the Quick Resume save state slots at some point.

Xbox's Jason Ronald said in the podcast:

"This is really just the beginning. We got a lot of really exciting things coming down the pipeline in the coming months and in the coming years. We're also partnering closely with key game developers from all across the industry to really take full advantage of all the next-gen capabilities that we've put in the Xbox Series X and Series S, and we really are excited as we get further into the year and towards this holiday to start sharing more details about what's in development and how you can really take advantage of these next-gen platforms."

The fans' expectations are high for more games to support Xbox Series X's Quick Resume.
